Antigua 2016 – Day 3, Language and Love

Our team is fortunate to have several people who are able to interpret for the medical staff. Robert and Raquel Brewer have been essential to our team’s success. They have been married for 42 years, and both of them are passionate about language. They met in graduate school and both speak Spanish, Portuguese, and French.

Raquel has been an interpreter for more than 30 years, and since Robert retired from computer programming three years ago, he has been following his heart. Last year, he arrived with three of his classmates from the Berkeley Community College Interpretation program to complete his internship, and Raquel was their supervising instructor.

Last year Robert worked with audiology patients, teaching them how to use and care for their new hearing aids. This year they both returned independently to assist our team and are interpreting the post operative consultations with the surgeons and the families of their patients. Team Antigua is grateful to have their expertise.
