San Lucas 2024: Day 2 Surgeries Begin

The first day of surgeries in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala proved to be exhilarating and exhausting. The hospital staff is so helpful and some of them actually volunteer their time to work beside us each year to provide care. The patients are humble and understanding. They arrive at the hospital at seven am even though many have traveled miles from the south. The language barrier is a challenge but there is always a necessary translator close by. It’s amazing what smiles and hugs will do to calm a frightened child, mother, father or grandparent.
