Volunteer Spotlight – Shana Hett
![]() We are truly fortunate to have an incredible group of dedicated volunteers at Medical Missions Foundation, and their unwavering commitment to the communities we serve is truly inspiring. Each month, we aim to shine a light on a volunteer who has made significant contributions to our mission of providing “Health for the World.” In this month’s Volunteer Spotlight, we are excited to recognize a regular, long-time volunteer and friend, Shana Hett! ![]() How did you first learn about Med Missions? I had a few co-workers who had gone many places with Medical Missions Foundation all over and shared their wonderful adventures. ![]() What got you involved for the first time? I decided it would be an amazing opportunity to serve and also to use some of my Spanish I had learned throughout high school and college. ![]() What missions have you been involved with? I first went to Antigua Guatemala and then the Philippines in 2025. Such incredible experiences I jumped when one of the OB’s I worked with said you do medical missions too! So, Taliman Guatemala came next. ![]() What is a most memorable experience during one of the missions The heartfelt appreciation of those we serve. In Antigua the families camp and prepare food for their relatives and literally sat on benches around the hospital. They stood and clapped for the Americanos and said “Thank You!” Very humbling. ![]() Why do you volunteer? I feel grateful for all I’ve been given and don’t take it for granted. It is such an honor to share blessings of health with others and open my own expectations. There is nothing better than making friends and genuine impact! ![]() What advice would you give someone considering joining a mission? Be willing to open yourself up to the new experiences, way of doing things and culture and new parts of the world come home in your heart. ![]() Any last thoughts or comments you want to add? Try something new on each trip to truly open the doors and you’ll easily make a new connection. Everyone is always so willing to grow in new ways it recharges your medical direction! |
