Volunteer Spotlight – Lauren Siscel

Volunteer Spotlight – Lauren Siscel

How did you first learn about Medical Missions Foundation?
My husband found out about a need for the mission trip from a coworker and extended the invitation to me with my pharmacy background.

What got you involved for the first time?
Our first trip was in 2019- my husband and I have always wanted to give back and be able to do mission work. The event is so well organized so it made it easy to jump in as a newcomer with all the more experienced workers. We have made many friends over the years and the town of Antigua and being able to help its people keeps us coming back.

What missions have you been involved with?
2025 will be our 6th mission — all to Antigua, Guatemala

What is a most memorable experience during one of the missions?
The gratitude all of our patients have for the care we are able to provide – I love spending time with them and hear their stories.

Why do you volunteer?
Helping others has always been the core of who I am and big reason I pursued a career in healthcare.

What advice would you give someone considering joining a mission?
It will be an experience you’ll never forget. Even if you only do one mission, it will be a part of you forever.

Any last thoughts or comments you want to add?
Thank you for everyone that is apart of the foundation and volunteers every year that make this trip a success.
