Uganda Day 1: Welcomed with Open Arms

Today our Medical Missions Foundation team arrived in Gulu, Uganda after a six hour ride from Kampala, and settled in at Churchill Courts. The familiar smiles of our Ugandan partners greeted us warmly—these are the dedicated local professionals who will be working alongside us throughout the week at St. Mary’s Lacor Hospital.
After a brief orientation, Pepper Card, Lisa Heath, and Mark Shields walked us through the plans for the days ahead. Their leadership set the tone for what promises to be a full and impactful mission.
Dinner was followed by a special treat—a local dance troupe performed vibrant traditional dances, filling the evening with music, color, and energy. Laughter rang out as several of our team members were invited to join in, quickly realizing that keeping up with the rhythm was not as easy as it looked!
This mission team is a beautiful example of diversity and dedication. We are fortunate to have veterans like Meredith Jackson, who is serving on her 50th mission, alongside first-time participants bringing fresh energy and excitement. Our group spans the map—Kansas City, Utah, Massachusetts, California, and beyond. One of our most dedicated travelers, Gerry Dunphy, journeyed an incredible 32 hours from Brazil to be part of this mission. The passion that unites this team is truly inspiring.
Tomorrow we begin the real work—delivering supplies, screening patients, and setting up the operating rooms at Lacor. With hearts full of hope and determination, we’re ready to serve the people of Gulu with compassion, skill, and love.
Thanks to all the professionals involved in this humanitarian endeavor. Sharing all your energy and knowledge to bring healing to all of the deserving people of the world.
